This week, one of our Managing Partners, David Scott, is in Hawaii, participating in the Ironman Kona competition. Dave has mused before on how business is like an Ironman competition, with the need to be dedicated and plan to be successful, and I have no intention of repeating his words here. However, it is worth noting that like the ability to work from home, or to provide documents to a customer on time when circumstances would otherwise prevent timeliness, or simply the ability to work collaboratively with someone who is not physically with you, this is something that would not be possible ten, or even five, years ago.
Surely, Dave could have gone to Kona and competed (and won, probably, since he’s a paragon of human strength and endurance!). But he would have been leaving the business behind, in the eyes and hands of others. Without the cloud technologies of today, he would be cut off from the workings of the office, unable to check in on the orders we have working this week and any issues that may arise. While that may seem like a relaxing vacation for some, Dave knows that a business doesn’t run itself, and part of being a successful business owner is keeping your eye on things at all times, regardless of where you are in the world. Our cloud technologies allow him to do that, while also chasing his personal goals.
